Authentic leadership and resilience
Tuesday 30 August 2022
1:30pm AEST
Two of the most talked about concepts in the leadership community are authenticity and resilience, with each characterising its own unique derivation, application and misconception.
Authenticity is based on the belief that being genuine, self-aware and even vulnerable are core strengths of being yourself. These human-centred qualities are thought to provoke greater trust, loyalty and return on leadership.
Resilience contemplates the ability to bounce back and recover, or otherwise return to a previous state of being, following significant challenge or failure.
Join Wes in this session to look at your leadership style and ask these key questions. What if being authentic doesn’t garner the intended return? Should you consider being more like someone else? What if the ability to recover seems long and lessons learned are difficult to apply? Are you destined to repeat failure without building bounce-back capability?
In this session we'll discuss:
How do you define and apply your best authentic self to maximise the value of return on leadership
What are the core elements of resilience that you can test and learn, to build bounce-back capability
Why it’s essential to develop and strengthen authentic leadership and resilience capability by reflecting on daily critical incidents to recognise patterns, cultivate habits and embed shortcuts to accelerate outcomes.
Leading Purpose
Friday 2 October 2021
“The guidance and direction offered by leaders with purpose is so compelling that those around them strive to do the same. In everything they do at home, work, or crisis, purposeful leaders endeavour to contribute meaningfully to life, people, and society, and aspire to make a valued difference in the world.” ~ Dr Wesley Payne McClendon
Join Wes for another interactive session hosted by The Next Step where he will share his thoughts and insights on the importance of leaders with purpose and how to embed habits of purposeful leaders.
Seven Habits
Hyper-Intensive Master Class
Friday 17 July 2020
9:30am - 11:30am
Leadership muscle memory and the habits that underpin them don’t happen by accident. Learning bad leader habits takes time, practice and complacence. However, the next crisis may not come as a gentle reminder to rethink old habits. Instead, crisis may come slowly as an everyday occurrence just under the radar of alarm. In the end, frogs still cook, the Titanic still sinks and the virus still spreads even with the best intentions.
Dr Wesley Payne McClendon has developed a learner process adoption method for unlearning bad leader habits, learning good habits and embedding them into everyday practices and patterns of behaviour. Wes noted in a recent interview, “the seven habits of leaders are not only critical to leading through crisis, but also a requirement for leading business as usual.”
In this hyper-intensive masterclass on building Seven habits of leaders in crisis, Wes will share a practical framework to unlearn bad habits, and learn and embed the habits of purposeful leaders. Over a lively and fast-paced 90 minutes, Dr McClendon facilitates a series of interactive discussions, activities and exercises to re-imagine leading in crisis.
Seven Habits of Leaders in Crisis
Friday 3 July 2020
12:30pm - 1:30pm
When leaders come face-to-face with crisis, the dynamic it generates is revealing. In practical terms, crisis doesn't change leaders; it merely reinforces who they are. There isn’t likely to be one-size fits all when it comes to leading in crisis. There are, however, a set of leadership habits that are likely to have more success than others. Arguably, there are at least five habits of good leaders in crisis. Great leaders, having motivated and compelled others to align themselves to a common purpose, intuitively develop two additional leadership habits, which elevate them from good to great.
In this interactive session, Dr Wesley Payne McClendon will share the 7 Habits of Leaders. Dr Wesley, will poll participants during the webinar to select the top 3 habits you would like to learn more about and how to embed.
